Background check

See what available information says about someone.

Recordwell is a people-search report, not a consumer report. The distinction decides what you are legally allowed to do with the result.

Two different products

If your decision affects someone’s job, home, credit or insurance, stop here and use a Consumer Reporting Agency. Recordwell is not one.

What to use instead, by case

  1. 01

    Hiring or contracting

Use an FCRA-compliant screening provider and follow its consent and adverse-action process.

  2. 02

    Renting to someone

Use a tenant-screening agency that supports the rights attached to a housing decision.

  3. 03

    Lending or insuring

Use a consumer reporting agency; credit and insurance decisions are covered uses.

  4. 04

    Meeting, buying or reconnecting

This is where Recordwell fits: personal public context, with evidence kept attached.

What a public-record search can show

A background check pulls the public paper trail on a person: court records, professional licenses, business affiliations, news mentions, and the digital footprint attached to their name, email, or phone. Recordwell runs connected live and scheduled checks, then and summarizes the result in plain language — what checks out, what's missing, and what deserves a closer look.

One honest limit: Recordwell is not a Consumer Reporting Agency. This report is for personal awareness — verifying a date, a seller, a new acquaintance — and may not be used for hiring, tenancy, credit, or insurance decisions under the FCRA. For those, use a licensed CRA.

What shows up in an online background check?

Public court records (civil, criminal, bankruptcy), professional licenses, business affiliations, property connections, news mentions, and the person's public digital footprint. What does NOT show up: credit scores, medical records, sealed or juvenile records, and anything behind a private login.

How is this different from an employer background check?

Employer checks are run by licensed Consumer Reporting Agencies under FCRA rules — with consent forms, dispute procedures, and legal liability. Recordwell is the personal-awareness counterpart: same available records, no bureaucracy, but legally unusable for employment decisions. Checking a date? Us. Hiring a driver? A licensed CRA.

How accurate is a background check?

As accurate as the public record behind it. Records can lag reality by weeks, common names can tangle, and courts digitize unevenly across counties. That's why our reports link checks and flag confidence instead of presenting everything as gospel — treat any single record as a starting point, not a verdict.

Recordwell is not a Consumer Reporting Agency. Reports may not be used for employment, tenancy, credit, insurance, or any other FCRA-covered decision.

Why Recordwell

Built to be trusted

The coverage you expect, with the honesty most people-search sites don't offer.

Clear, not a data dump

We organize returned signals into a concise, plain-language summary.

Sensitive data stays private

Breach and personal details are unlocked only after you verify the email is yours.

Card stays with Stripe

A full report needs a paid plan. Card details are entered on Stripe’s hosted checkout, never on Recordwell, and the price and renewal terms are shown before payment.

Official property records

County assessor and appraisal records are loaded from the public bodies that publish them.

Results you can understand

Confirmed records are separated from weaker name-only matches.

Remove yourself

Found your own data? We show you how to get it taken down.

Honest by design

Honest by design

We're new — so instead of invented reviews, here's exactly what Recordwell does, and what it won't do.

Confidence, clearly labeled. We separate confirmed records from other people who share the name — no pretending a guess is a match.

You stay in control. No card required to search, sensitive data unlocked only after you verify it's yours — and a one-click way to remove your own information.

Not a background-check service. Recordwell is not a Consumer Reporting Agency, so results may not be used for hiring, tenant, credit, or other FCRA-covered decisions.

Why this is hard to do yourself

One name lives in dozens of places. We check them all.

A fuller picture of someone is rarely on page one of a search engine — relevant details can be scattered across profiles, web pages, news and exposure data. Comparing them by hand takes time.

Social & profile discovery

Public profiles and usernames matched across platforms into one identity.

Public & legal records

Courts, licenses, corporate filings, donations and sanctions screening.

Web, news & media

Search results, news mentions and public web references, summarized.

Breach & exposure

Whether an email shows up in known data breaches and what was exposed.

Deterministic cross-referencing

We organize the returned signals into one reproducible report — not a data dump.

Clear confidence

Sensitive items are labeled so you know what requires independent verification.

Structured resultsExplicit confidence1 clear report

Doing this by hand means juggling many tools and hours of cross-referencing. Recordwell keeps the result in one place.
